It’s a source of inspiration to humankind that Nelson Mandela even at the twilight of his life has not forgotten poor and reminded rich their duty. Just when growing numbers possibly started forgetting, reports started pouring from different corners and his inimitable voice reverberates: “There are many people in South Africa who are rich and who can share those riches with those not so fortunate who have not been able to conquer poverty”. At his age and achievements beside own name, many will prefer to just pass the remaining days of life in solitude. But the 27-springs that he spent in jail have reinforced the spirit of realization day in and day out and he emerged from his ‘quiet reflection’ just to remind the duty of fortunate few. It is this spirit before which the mighty apartheid regime bent down on its knees–and not for without reasons, the last ruler of apartheid regime has portrayed him as one of the greatest figures of the last century. It was this spirit with which he could embrace a multicultural democracy even when he had total control of events after his presidential inauguration. And that very moment Nelson Mandela could easily surpassed the fine divide to be the leader of black and white alike.
You are the cardinal light for oppressed crowd, the hope for demoralized soul, the voice of exploited mass, the courage of intimidated mob. You are the face for human hope– Long live Nelson Mandela!

Well said! What is it about ‘free-market-democracies’ that make the problem of poverty so intractable?
And I’m just wondering why there aren’t more ‘Nelson Mandelas’? The world could sure do with them now . . . . . .

how do you see the distribution of wealth being implemented?
what do you think he means by sharing their riches
to put money into organisations that educate?
higher taxes?
one brilliant idea is to up vat and to have luxury good taxed higher
so that the revenue generated can be ploughed into the basic needs of the poorest communities etc
sounds good to me
no personal tax but it’s all done through VAT!
